The Jazz Quarter is a three story village house surrounded by beech forest in the tiny hamlet of La Galaube in the Montagne Noire. La Galaube is a nature lovers' retreat in an area designated 'of Outstanding Natural Beauty' only half an hour by car from Carcassonne airport.
The Montagne Noire has a rich Cathar history with many castles and ruins to visit. We have a Sat-Nav we can lend you so you never get lost finding your way to the more obscure beauty spots or more importantly - back home.  Just metres from the house is a Grade A trout river (permits available in the nearby village - passport photo needed.) and endless stunning walks in every direction. Catch something in the river and you can barbecue it in our garden if you wish.  For children there is a well stocked trout pond with rods to hire about 15 minutes drive away.

The Medieval Walled City of Carcassonne is about half an hour by car and makes for a wonderful day out.
The famous 'Village des Livres' (village of books) of Montolieu is ten minutes by car.  Montolieu is a very friendly. medieval village, renowned for its many bookshops, a printing museum, interesting church,  tourist information office, three cafe's and a pretty restaurant in the main square.
Five minutes from la Galaube is the village of Fontiers Cabardes with its popular child friendly bar, Bar 620, where you can often hear live music whilst enjoying a meal outside under the plane trees.
Horse treks operate through the forest near our house (subject to availability) and we are more than happy to arrange this for you. There is usually a traditional French market on somewhere, whatever the day, and we can find one for you to visit during your stay.
Twenty-five minutes drive away is a well known recreational swimming lake with windsurfing and canoeing, or if you want wilder lake swimming there are plenty of closer opportunities.
During the season there are several good local restaurants to visit in the area and one of the best is a five minute walk from the house (unlit track). Here the young Dutch couple who run the place are extremely friendly and (in our opinion) the food is of an exceptionally high quality and beautifully presented. Booking may be necessary.  (Remember: In France most restaurants close on Mondays.)
We are very flexible with our two guest rooms and don't mind providing extra camp beds for those of you with more than two children - we have had a family of seven staying!  Breakfast is served in our family kitchen, and we like to think we provide a generous start to the day with a large breakfast. We look forward to meeting you.
